Recent Zimmer NexGen Knee Replacement Systems Problematic
The NexGen knee replacement systems have been on the market since 1994. Since then Zimmer has built a reputation for having one of the most durable and dependable line of knee replacement systems on the market. However, the newest model of the NexGen line, the NexGen CR-Flex, has come under heavy criticism as being faulty. These criticisms stem from the premise of the NexGen CR-Flex knee replacement system was supposed to last at least 15 years before any signs of revision were needed.
This NexGen CR-Flex knee replacement system is a cementless version of Zimmer’s Knee Replacement system. When it was first introduced by Zimmer in 2003 it was supposed be a big innovation in the medical device field. According to Zimmer the NexGen CR-Flex was supposed to last up to 15 years, with proper care and maintenance. With that kind of potential the NexGen CR-Flex quickly became one of the most popular type of Knee Replacement systems for Zimmer with over 150,000 surgeries done using the NexGen Cr-Flex. These recipients are starting to regret having it placed inside their body since the cementless technology has started to become loose, causing even the simplest things like straightening his or her leg to become severely painful.
However, this is not the first line of products from Zimmer to come under such criticism. The Durom Cup line of Hip products was recalled just two years ago. This line of hip products also uses the same cementless technology the NexGen CR-Flex uses, and once again many are complaining that the replacement has become loose from the bone. With such similarities to the recalled Durom cup line many have begun to to call for a Zimmer Knee recall.
Having gross revenue that reaches into to the billions, many are wondering why the safety of its customers is not Zimmer’s top priority. It is quite clear to many that the top officials of Zimmer have not yet acknowledged their role as health providers to the public. The lack of acceptance is what has caused tens of thousands of its customers to become injured.
